One thing about me, I cannot STAND poorly done accents, especially poorly done Scottish accents (seriously, they don’t roll their R’s that much!). My Grandfather’s family is Scottish and my party trick since high school has been pulling out the accent to impress strangers.

Therefore, I can clock a bad Scottish accent from a mile away. Needless to say, I was both very excited and very nervous to see The Shaw Festival’s production of Brigadoon.

I am doing my best to see as many older musicals as I can, as there is less of an opportunity to see older shows like this. However, the age demographic was very noticeable between a show like this and say, Hamilton. I hope theatre’s like Shaw can start to appeal to a younger demographic.

The show was FUN, WHIMSICAL and FRESH! I especially enjoyed the colour-blind casting and was relieved that the accents were mostly very well done! A couple times an accent would slip but honestly, A+ for effort by everyone.

FUN FACT: My Grandma’s name is Bonnie Jean.
