RENT

La Vie Boheme

Rent

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

CLOSED: April 8 to November 5, 2023.

Full disclosure, I don’t think it’s possible for me to hate a production of Rent. Rent was the first musical I BOUGHT with a collection of iTunes cards (remember those?) and then listened to the soundtrack non-stop.

I saw some reviewers complaining about how Rent feels unfinished. Well, duh. I’m not sure if it’s still common knowledge to people that Jonathan Larson passed away the day of their first Off-Broadway preview in 1996. “How do you measure a year in the life?” seems a bit more poignant when you realize it was Johnathan’s last year of life, doesn’t it?

All this to stay, I love this show and I cried through the whole thing.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCE: Andrea Macasaet as Mimi. Obsessed with her performance as Anne Boleyn in SIX on Broadway and was delighted to see her in this production. Phenomenal voice.

FUN FACT: Rent is loosely based on the 1896 opera La Boheme.

TICKET TIP: Stratford Festival offers a number of “Pay What You Can” days. Additionally, they have obstructed view seats for a discounted rate. Tickets can be purchased directly from their website.
