La Cage aux Folles

Hey

world, I am what I am!

La Cage aux Folles

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

EXTENDED, RUNS: May 31st until November 16th

I am very lucky that one of my closest friends (who I performed with in high school) got a job with the Stratford Festival and scored us front row seats to this hilarious and heartfelt show.

There is not a performance in this show that doesn’t stand out- the ensemble and the leads are firing on all cylinders. I had a hard time figuring out who I wanted to watch. The costumes, the dancing, the singing!! this show is so much fun. I really had a blast watching it.

Despite debuting on Broadway in 1983, the musicals key messages of tolerance and acceptance are still as important as they were back then. If you have a chance, this isn’t a show to be missed this season.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCE: Steve Ross as Albin. If you don’t tear up a little bit during “I am what I am,” you are a cold hearted bitch and we can’t be friends.

Plus, my friend and I saw two shows and happened to see him outside after the evening performance at Something Rotten. We congratulated him on both of his performances and he exclaimed “that’s a lot of theatre for one day!” as if he wasn’t the one who had just performed twice???? Lovely, lovely human being.

FUN FACT: La Cage is the first musical to win the Tony for Best Revival twice, in addition to its original Best Musical Tony.

TICKET TIP: Stratford Festival offers a number of “Pay What You Can” days. Additionally, they have obstructed view seats for a discounted rate. Tickets can be purchased directly from their website. Or, befriend Stratford workers ;)
